Tangshan Sanyou pulp procurement policy statement
Date: 2015.07.28
As a major viscose fiber producer in China, Tangshan Sanyou Group Xingda Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd. will play a leading role in the pulp and viscose industry, and work with pulp suppliers and Canopy to promote sustainable forest management and protect the original endangered forests.
Scope of commitment
Our company's pulp procurement, including subsidiary Tangshan Sanyou Yuanda Fiber Co., Ltd. shall comply with this policy. We will source from raw material suppliers that are transparent, traceable and comply with this policy. If a supplier violates these standards, we will first help them change their production practices, and if it is found that raw materials originate from areas prohibited by the policy, we will re-evaluate whether to keep working with them.
Protect the original endangered forests and forest landscape integrity
Tangshan Sanyou Group Xingda Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd. supports the protection of primitive endangered forests. The dissolved pulp we are using is evaluated to ensure that no raw materials are used from virgin endangered forests, such as boreal forests in Canada and Russia, coastal temperate rainforests, tropical forests and peatlands in Indonesia, the Amazon and West Africa, and habitats of rare species. Eliminate dissolving pulp from controversial sources, such as illegal logging companies or plantations that have been converted from natural forests since 1994.
Recognizes, respects and supports human and community rights
Suppliers are required to comply with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to respect the legal, customary and user rights of indigenous and rural communities over their territories, lands and resources. To achieve this, our suppliers are required to fully respect the rights of indigenous and rural communities to grant or retain their autonomous, prior and informed rights before logging rights are allocated and tree plantations are developed.
R&d innovation and substitution
We will work with Canopy, innovative companies and suppliers to explore ways to protect the environment. We will give full play to our active role in strengthening the use of sustainable non-forest resources such as hemp, bamboo and agricultural waste, and strive to expand the field of bamboo resources, focusing on the promotion of Sanyou Yuzhu fiber and Bamboo Modal Fiber
Advocate conservation programs
In our partnership with Canopy, we will support collaborative and forward-looking system solutions to protect virgin endangered forests, including coastal temperate rainforests on Vancouver Island, the Great Bear Rainforest, the Boreal forest in Canada, and the rainforests of Indonesia.
Forest certificate
The purchase of raw materials preferentially selects sustainably managed forests and has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Sustainable Forestry Development (SFI) or the Forest Certification System Accreditation Association (PEFC) system. Among these three certification systems, we value FSC more, and our raw materials are mainly purchased by FSC.
Transparency, traceability and verification
We will achieve transparency and traceability in our supply chain by 2016 to clarify the origin of our raw materials. We will work with our stakeholders to establish a third-party verification system for our operations and supply chain to achieve the certification of primary endangered forests by 2017.
Reduce greenhouse gas footprint
We recognise the importance of forests and peatlands as carbon reservoirs and support initiatives that promote forest conservation and reduce loss of high-carbon-value forests, encouraging suppliers to avoid developing these areas and prioritising more environmentally minded suppliers.
Prevent and control pollution
Dissolving pulp and viscose manufacturing is a resource-intensive industry that can lead to air and water pollution and affect overall environmental quality. That's why we use the most environmentally friendly technology in our production process.
